What is embossed foil?
Last updated 17 June 2026.
Embossed foil is a premium finish that raises selected design elements and covers them with metallic foil, adding texture and contrast.

By lifting parts of your design off the surface and finishing them with reflective metallic foil, embossed foil creates a subtle 3D effect. The raised texture catches the light and gives logos, text or graphic details a polished, high-end look that stands out visually and to the touch.

How embossed foil is made

First your design is printed onto the card stock. A raised layer is then applied to selected areas, and metallic foil is added on top of that raised surface. This combination of texture and shine is what creates the embossed, dimensional effect.

When to use embossed foil

Embossed foil works best when you want to draw attention to specific elements and add a refined, premium feel. It’s ideal for:

  • Highlighting selected design elements rather than the full surface

  • Logos, text or details meant to stand out visually

  • Designs that benefit from a subtle 3D effect and metallic shine

  • Creating a polished, high-end look with added texture and contrast
