Why am I being charged GST despite my order value being over NZ$1000?
Last updated 18 June 2026.
GST is charged on individual items valued at NZ$1,000 or less, even if your total order exceeds that amount.

New Zealand tax regulations require us to collect GST on any individual item valued at NZ$1,000 or less. This applies regardless of your total order amount.

How GST is calculated

When you check your cart, the tax is determined by the value of each specific product rather than the sum of all products combined. This distinction is important for understanding your final balance.

  • Individual items under NZ$1,000: GST is collected by VistaPrint at the time of checkout. This ensures your package can clear customs without additional tax delays.

  • Individual items over NZ$1,000: These are considered high-value imports. GST and customs duties for these specific items are usually handled by the New Zealand Customs Service when the package arrives in the country and will not be charged by us.

By collecting this tax at checkout for low-value items, we help your order reach you faster by avoiding processing holds at the border.
